Urban gardening plays a big role in Germany and Berlin is not an exception. The project territory is located in Spandau district, where the garden communities occupy a larger part of the land, however the building area is going to be densified in the nearest future.
After analyzing the historical maps, we can notice that the gardens are gradually disappearing. It `s hard to imagine that can exist form in the future. Consequently the project suggests creation of innovative principles for the integration of gardening (greenhouses and gardens) in dense urban development. The green way which passes from the south to the north and from the west to the east connects all parks around the area. Greenhouses and gardens are differently integrated in the quarters. Every quarter has its own identity.
In the most significant places of the territory, two key elements are organically located, such as an urban farm, in the place of the former parade ground and a food cluster, which develops current trade function. They provide the energy to bring people
together to communicate and in addition, they attract people from outside like an engine. Thus, the lively and various structure of building is set up, which is combined by the overall system of recreational areas.
Sustainable development is achieved by innovative integration of urban gardening concept, namely through ecological friendliness, social diversity, identity and environmental accessibility, moreover, the territory has become more effective and
profitable.
